Mother Nature, Father Cosmos, and Our Destiny
We human beings, of all the life on this planet which is now our home, have the ability, the potential, to freely leave this planet and dwell elsewhere. That is, we have the ability - through our reason, our creativity - of exploring the Cosmos and establishing human outposts on other worlds.
We can do this because we are (to use an appropriate although inexact analogy) the children of Nature: that is, because this leaving and dwelling elsewhere is our Destiny. We have been born, nurtured, to do this, for Nature, our Mother, has nurtured us, giving us sentience, will and the ability to be honourable: the ability to change ourselves for the better by doing what is good, what is noble. The truth is that reason, honour and striving to restrain ourselves by using our will are expressions of our humanity: of what makes us human and different from the other life on this planet.
When we use our reason, when we use our will to restrain and change ourselves, when we are honourable, then we are behaving as adults. To learn to restrain ourselves, to use our will, to let reason be our guide, to be honourable, to create civilized societies, is to be mature: to be human. If we do not do these things then we are, and will remain, at best children and at worst half-savage animals.
To be human is to respect and honour our parents: to learn from them. Unfortunately, modern life conspires to make us arrogant, prideful, and almost compels us to act with disrespect toward not only them but toward other human beings and indeed toward all life.
Our human nature compels us to socialize and to strive: to create human societies where we can live as free human beings, develope our potential and strive to fulfil our human Destiny. Unfortunately, we have seldom acted in a human way in the past five thousand years or so. Instead, we have preferred to behave like spoilt, immature children or savage beasts.
We can achieve our Destiny in an honourable, human way: through striving to do good, through striving to evolve, by means which do not cause more suffering.
These means are embodied in the Numinous Way, for through its law
based upon honour and its respect for reason, we can
create free, noble communities and societies, as we can honourably
strive to
continue our development, our evolution. In particular, the Numinous
Way teaches us, through its Cosmic Ethics, to respect and honour
Nature, the Cosmos and all life.
